Students at Montessori of Maryknoll, in Glen Ellyn, Illinois, US, participate in multiple service projects each year to help promote world-wide citizenship. In the spring, these young students always organize a plant and bake sale for Africa. This year they chose Note Karacel because of their commitment to clean water, and to girls’ education. The six Kindergarten students were in charge of the event, with help from the younger students as well. The Montessori students grew their own plants, and baked cookies and other delicious treats for the sale. The students raised $200 from this event. And the Montessori of Maryknoll School matched the students’ proceeds with a second $200. We all were happy to contribute $400 to Note Karacel. Thank you for all you do for others. We are happy to be a part of your great mission.

Through the Christmas season, many schools opened their doors and hearts to allow us to sell our Ugandan wares to help raise funds for all of our projects. We were welcomed by Madison Junior High School in Naperville, DeLaSalle Girls Campus in Chicago and Rosary Catholic High School in Aurora. These events help to raise awareness as well as funds. Here are a few pictures of the girls from DeLaSalle. They have also taken on the sponsorship of a Little Flower in secondary school. The Rosary high school students continue to sponsor four Little Flowers. We are blessed for everyone’s continued support.
Thank you to all of our wonderful supporters. The students at Rosary Catholic High School have raised funds to send four little flowers to boarding school this year. They also had a Valentine Fundraiser towards our ongoing well projects. Oswego East High School continues to invite us in for concessions at various events. Plank Junior High School in Oswego has also invited us to do concessions. Divine Infant Catholic Parish in Westchester hosted a soup and bread lenten event to raise funds for our wells. Alone very little can be accomplished, but when we unite together, we can move mountains.
We are very excited that our beloved Father Stan will be traveling from Uganda this summer. He will be speaking at several churches. We will post exact information as his visit approaches. July 20 there will be a Walk for Wells fundraiser at the Naperville Riverwalk. Please come out and help us raise funds for a well. Father Stan would love to meet all of his supporters. Online registration and fundraising will be posted on the website soon.
We haven’t updated in a while, but we have been very busy. We are fully funded through well seven and we have begun working towards number eight.
So many people worked hard to raise funds for well number three and it has been installed and is up and running. We thought everyone would enjoy these pictures. Noted on the sign are the largest contributors who include Diane Piricsi, David Shallow, Father Nowak, Jule & Patricia Bell, Greg & Sherry Elliot and Oswego East High School.
Each year, the lectors at St. Thomas the Apostle Catholic Church in Naperville put on an event called Soup and Bread. It is part of their Lenten journey. The lectors bake wonderful breads and bring homemade soups. Parishioners are invited for an evening of prayer and to share this simple meal. A free-will offering is taken up, and donated to a different organization within St. Thomas ministries each year. This year, they broke tradition and selected Note Karacel to be the recipient. Trish and Jack shared a few words about the mission of Note Karacel and a brief audiovisual presentation was presented. We sold crosses, necklaces, t-shirts and purses at this event as well. The event brought in $1500 that will go towards well number five. It was a beautiful evening. We are so grateful to the lectors and parishioners of St. Thomas for their outpouring of generosity.
Senior and student council president Elizabeth Wall organized a fundraiser to sponsor a girl’s education. The event was so well-received that they decided to have each of the four classes sponsor a girl in an on-going manner. The student council organized an ice-cream and brownie sale during the week of January 30 – February 3 to celebrate Catholic Schools Week. They also allowed Note Karacel to sell crosses, necklaces, t-shirts and purses to raise further funds. The event raised more than $2500. We welcome our new little flowers in the pictures: Ruth Alango (Primary 2), Jemina Adit (Primary 5), Marcy Aceng (Secondary 2), Miriam Akullu (Tailoring School 1). Rosary High School will continue to have an annual event to support the ongoing education of these four girls. It is always inspiring when it is our youth leading the way. Note Karacel thanks Rosary High School for their amazing support.
